Young yellowish to orange brown with a paler margin, moist high striated, sometimes strongly rugolose, older more greyish, during drying almost always with distinctly pinkish tones. Veil only on youngest fruitbodies between cap and stipe, extremely volatile.
Lamellae moderately close to somewhat distant, adnate, at first whitish, later grey brown, edge pinkish to red brown underlined but mostly white fimbriated.
Stipe 30-100 x 1-3 mm, with a 25-35 mm long pseudorhiza, base often somewhat enlarged and tomentose.
Spore print black with a trace o red.
Microcharacters:
Spores 10-15 (-17,5) x 5,5-7 (-7,5) µm, av. 11,4-13,7 x 5,7-6,9, av. Q=1,88-2,20, slender ellipsoid, ovoid, germ pore large, truncat. In water and ammonia red brown, in KOH blackish brown with a purplish tone, subopaque.
Basidia 16,5-35 x 8,2-13,5 µm, 4-spored.
Cheilocystidia 24,5-60 (-75) x 7-20 (-27), mostly utriform, rarely lageniform, sometimes capitate, numerous but mostly not crowded. Clavate and sphaeropedunculate marginal cells 9,5-30 x 5-13,5 µm, walls often slightly thickened and yellowish brown pigmented, often in crowded clusters.
