Originaldiagnose oder -beschreibung:

"Stems very long (sometimes 3 feet or more) prostrate, entangled, round, spirally striated; lower branches mostly opposite, uppe alternate, much swollen at their insertion; lower leaves hastate, the lobes ascending, sinuate-dentate, obtuse, upper leaves lanceolate, entire, obtuse, all fleshy and sparingly scattered over with a mealy pubescence; flowers 4 to 6 topgether in the axils of the upper leaves; enlarged calyces rotundate-hastate, slightly waved or toothed, the angles and apex obtuse, furnished with two masses of tubercles on the back; seed subreniform, compressed, large, but not half the size of the enlarged sepals."

Kennzeichen:

☉ Küsten der Ostsee. Bis 60 cm hoch. Blätter dreieckig bis spießförmig, Rand meist gezähnt bis gebuchtet, Oberseite grün, Unterseite und jung grauweiß, sukkulent. Blüten in kleinen Knäueln. Vorblätter bis zur Mitte verwachsen, unterer Teil verhärtend, rhombisch, apikal zugespitzt, Rand gezähnt, dorsal oft mit Protuberanzen, mehlig, Nervatur wenig auffällig. Samen dimorph; schwärzliche Samen bis 2 mm, rotbraune bis 2,5 mm.
